My Journey to Medicine

I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, and my journey to medicine began without a traditional roadmap. I come from a low socioeconomic background and, early on, had limited exposure to the process of applying to college, pursuing a pre-medical pathway, and navigating the medical school admissions process.

My first year of college was spent at a community college before transferring to the University of Texas at Dallas, where I found mentorship and support that helped me excel academically and professionally. That experience shaped my belief that mentorship can fundamentally change the trajectory of a student's future - and it is one of the reasons I am so passionate about helping others navigate this journey.

During my undergraduate career, I developed a strong academic record, participated in meaningful community service throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth area, conducted biomedical research, and contributed to publications that strengthened my medical school application. I learned firsthand how important it is to understand not only what successful applicants do, but why certain experiences matter and how to communicate them effectively.

When I applied to medical school shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic, I was fortunate to receive a record number of acceptances, including offers from several Texas medical schools such as UT Southwestern Medical School, Dell Medical School, McGovern Medical School, and University of Texas Medical Branch. I also received multiple out-of-state acceptances, including opportunities at institutions such as Keck School of Medicine of USC, Tufts University School of Medicine, and Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.

My own application journey gave me firsthand experience navigating the challenges of medical school admissions — from building a competitive résumé and selecting experiences strategically to crafting a compelling personal narrative.

Admissions Experience & Mentorship

Beyond my own application experience, I have served as an admissions reviewer and interviewer for pre-health enrichment programs through institutions in California and Texas. These experiences allowed me to evaluate applications, interview prospective students, and better understand what distinguishes successful candidates.

My advising philosophy is centered around personalization. There is no single formula for becoming a successful medical school applicant. Every student brings a different background, set of experiences, strengths, and challenges. The best advice is advice that considers the individual, not just general statistics or a standardized checklist.

I am passionate about helping students identify their strengths, overcome barriers, and present their most authentic selves throughout the admissions process.
