Hello,
I’m Kamal, an MS1 at the first-ever TMU School of Medicine, Class of 2029! I will be offering services related to the MCAT, OMSAS Applications, MMI's, Kira Asynchronous Assessment, and Casper.
Getting to this point took a lot of time, reflection, and trust in my own path. I completed my BSc in Biomedical Sciences at York University (2020) and went on to earn my MSc in Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Ottawa (2024). My research focused on understanding the role of cancer stem cells in glioblastoma, one of the most lethal neurological malignancies. At the same time, I had the chance to explore science from a very different angle, working as an Art-Scientist with ArtSci Salon, a Toronto-based collective where I investigated the creative tensions between science, art, and philosophy through public-facing research and storytelling.
I first applied to medical school in 2020 and didn’t receive any interview invites. On my second attempt, I made it to the McMaster waitlist. And this year, on my third try, I was accepted to TMU Med—a brand new school with a highly competitive admissions process.
After three application cycles and five years of reflection, I’ve learned that success in this process doesn’t come from being “perfect.” It comes from leveraging your unique identity and demonstrating your knowledge and commitment throughout the entirety of your application. I really believe that when your intention is rooted in a genuine desire to heal others, this path will always find a way to work out.
If you need help cultivating your application or preparing for the Casper/MMI/Asynchronous Assessment, please feel free to reach out anytime!

2022 - 2024
My thesis investigated the role of chloride intracellular channel 1 (CLIC1) in the pathogenesis of glioblastoma using patient-derived brain tumour stem cells. I employed both in vitro and in vivo models to study CLIC1-mediated signalling and its therapeutic potential. Key techniques included: - Proximity ligation assays - Confocal microscopy - RT-qPCR - Co-immunoprecipitation - siRNA knockdown & electroporation - Cell fractionation & exosome isolation - Western blotting - Stereotactic intracranial injections (murine models) - Bioluminescent imaging

I had a 1 hour session with Kamaldeep where we practiced the MMI. I found this session quite informative, as he is able to give helpful feedback but will also give examples of how he would answer a question in an articulate way.
