Hi everyone! My name is Matthew, and I am a first-year medical student at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix. I am incredibly excited to be joining Accepted Together and to have the opportunity to support students who are working toward their goal of becoming physicians.
My journey to medical school has been filled with plenty of hard work, uncertainty, and lessons learned along the way. I graduated from Arizona State University with degrees in Biomedical Sciences and Business Administration along with a minor in Spanish. Throughout college, I was involved in research, leadership, teaching, EMS, and community service. All of these extracurricular activities helped shape my understanding of medicine and ultimately strengthened my desire to become a physician.
As someone who has recently gone through the medical school application process myself, I understand how overwhelming it can feel. From preparing for the MCAT and building meaningful experiences to writing personal statements, preparing for interviews, navigating the application cycle, and dealing with the uncertainty of waiting for an acceptance, there are so many moving pieces. I also understand that every applicant’s journey looks different, and there is no single “right” path to medical school.
I am excited to be here not only to share what I have learned but also to listen to your individual goals and help you develop a strategy that works for you. Whether you are just beginning to consider medicine, preparing your application, getting ready for interviews, or navigating a waitlist, I hope to be a resource you can turn to for honest advice, encouragement, and support.
Most importantly, I want you to know that you do not have to navigate this process alone. Medical school admissions can be challenging but with the right preparation, reflection, and support, it is absolutely possible to turn your goal of becoming a physician into a reality. I am looking forward to getting to know you and being a small part of your journey!

Emergency Medical Technician
My experience as an EMT has been one of the most formative parts of my journey toward medicine. I had the opportunity to work in several different roles within emergency medical services, including as an ambulance EMT, event EMT, and educator. Working on an ambulance exposed me to a wide variety of patients and emergencies where I learned how to remain calm under pressure, communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals, and provide compassionate care in unpredictable situations. I also worked as an event EMT, providing medical coverage at large-scale events and learning how to adapt to a completely different type of prehospital environment. These experiences taught me the importance of preparation, teamwork, situational awareness, and being able to make sound decisions with limited information. Beyond providing patient care, one of the most rewarding aspects of my EMT career was becoming a teacher and mentor. I served as an EMT instructor/teaching assistant, helping students develop their clinical knowledge and hands-on skills as they prepared to enter the field. Teaching reinforced my own understanding of medicine while allowing me to help others build confidence in their abilities. Across each of these roles, EMS taught me not only how to care for patients, but also how to lead, teach, communicate, and advocate for others. These are skills that I continue to carry with me into medical school.

Emergency Department Volunteer Team Leader
As an Emergency Department Team Lead, I volunteered in a fast-paced clinical environment where I supported patients, families, and healthcare staff while helping coordinate fellow volunteers. I served as a resource and mentor for new volunteers by helping them learn department procedures, communicate effectively with the care team, and provide compassionate support to patients. I assisted with patient transport, wayfinding, comfort measures, and other responsibilities that helped the emergency department operate efficiently. This experience strengthened my communication and leadership skills while allowing me to contribute meaningfully to patient care and learn from physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
