My name is Paria, and I’m a first-year medical student at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. As a first-generation immigrant navigating this journey for the first time, I understand how overwhelming and uncertain the medical school application process can feel.

After being unsuccessful in my first application cycle, I felt lost and uncertain about what to do next. That experience ultimately taught me one of the most important lessons in the admissions process: strong applications are not simply about achievements, but about reflection, storytelling, and understanding how your experiences have shaped you into the person and future physician you hope to become.

During my second cycle, I interviewed at six medical schools across Canada and the United States and was fortunate to receive five acceptances, including three U.S. medical schools and two Canadian medical schools before ultimately choosing the University of Toronto. This experience gave me firsthand insight into different application systems, interview formats, and what makes an applicant stand out.

What I value most about mentorship is helping students recognize their own strengths and tell their stories authentically. Whether it’s developing meaningful application essays, preparing for interviews, discussing extracurricular experiences, or navigating the challenges of the pre-med journey, I aim to provide honest, supportive, and individualized guidance.
